Why do SEO and what exactly is it? SEO is probably a term that you have come across many times when browsing the internet. Therefore, we have made an article on the basics of what SEO is and why your website needs it.
What is SEO and what does it stand for?
SEO stands for search engine optimisation and is the process of using techniques to improve your website appearance on search engines such as Google and Yahoo.
Why do SEO and why you need it
Getting your business or website seen is vital to its success. For instance, having a website be on page 1 of Google will greatly increase leads through exposure.
Consumers often use Google to search for relevant businesses for their query. For example if I required an electrician, I would search for the term electrician [my city] and let Google do its magic. However, as a consumer I don’t have the patience to search through the hundreds of pages. So unless your website is on the first page I will unlikely come across your site.
SEO is the process of getting you site to the first page of the search term. By using legitimate techniques your website can be seen by more potential clients and bring more revenue to your business.

- Image alt tags are labelled as the search term
- Content is relevant and unique
Off-site SEO is the method of linking to your website from established sites that are relevant to your site. This is called backlinking and some methods include:
- Linking from social media accounts (e.g. Facebook page)
- Contacting bloggers in your industry

*An important note is that you should never spam or copy existing articles as this can negatively affect the search rankings of your website.
